Jan[1] = ""The opening announcement that 'in the beginning God created the heaven and the earth' contains the statement of the first of these two propositions which are the fundamental premises from which the whole Bible is evolved. "

"From the Master's instruction to the woman of Samaria we know that 'God' means 'Spirit'; not 'a Spirit', as in the Authorised [King James — Ed] Version, thus narrowing the Divine Being with the limitations of individuality, but as it stands in the original Greek, simply 'Spirit' — that is, all Spirit, or Spirit in the Universal. Thus the opening words of the Bible may be read, 'in the beginning Spirit' — which is the statement of the underlying Universal Unity.

Here let me draw attention to the twofold meaning of the words 'in the beginning'. They may mean first in order of time, or first in order of causation, and the latter meaning is brought out by the Latin version, which commences with the words 'in principio' — that is, 'in principle'. This distinction should be borne in mind, for in all subsequent stages of evolution the initial principle which gives rise to the individualised entity must still be in operation as the fons et origo [fountain and origin — Ed] of that particular manifestation just as much as in its first concentration; it is the root of the individuality, without which the individuality would cease to exist."
Insight:
"this 'beginning' is, therefore, a continuous fact, always present and not to be conceived of as something which has been left behind and done with."
Click below to: read the source"

Mar[22] = "World Water Day!

Today's Theme:
Distributive Medium - Water

"In our reading of the Bible as well as in our practical application of Mental Science, the existence of this intermediary between Spirit and Matter must never be lost sight of. We may call it the Distributive Medium, in passing through which the hitherto undistributed Energy of Spirit receives differentiation of direction and so ultimately produces differentiation of forms and relations on the outermost or visible plane. This is the Cosmic Element which is esoterically called 'Water',"

"... the Master himself concentrates his whole instruction to Nicodemus on the point that the New Birth results from the interaction of 'Spirit' and 'Water', especially emphasising the fact that 'the flesh' has no share in the operation. This distinction between 'the flesh', or the outermost principle, and 'Water' should be carefully noted. The emphasis laid by the Master on the nothingness of 'the flesh' and the essentialness of 'Water' must mark a distinction of the most important kind, and we shall find it very helpful in unravelling the meaning of many passages of the Bible to grasp this distinction at the outset. The action of 'Spirit' upon 'Water' is that of an active upon a passive principle; and the result of any sort of Work is to reconstruct the material worked upon into a form which it did not possess before. Now the new form to be produced, whatever it may be, is a result and therefore is not to be enumerated among the causes of its own production."
Insight:
"Hence it is a self-obvious truism that any act of creative power must take place at a more interior level than that of the form to be created; and accordingly, whether in the Old or the New Testament, the creative action is always contemplated as taking place between the Spirit and the Water, whether we are thinking of producing a new world or a new man. Mar[25] = ""To realise fully how much of our present daily life consists in symbols is to find the answer to the old, old question, What is Truth? and in the degree in which we begin to recognise this we begin to approach Truth"

"There is an inner and an outer side to everything; and the quality of the superficial mind which causes it to fail in the attainment of Truth is its willingness to rest content with the outside only. So long as this is the case it is impossible for a man to grasp the import of his own relation to the universal, and it is this relation which constitutes all that is signified by the word 'Truth.' So long as a man fixes his attention only on the superficial it is impossible for him to make any progress in knowledge. He is denying that principle of 'Growth' which is the root of all life, whether spiritual intellectual, or material, for he does not stop to reflect that all which he sees as the outer side of things can result only from some germinal principle hidden deep in the centre of their being."
This innermost of all is absolute Spirit.:
"Expansion from the centre by growth according to a necessary order of sequence, this is the Law of Life of which the whole universe is the outcome, alike in the one great solidarity of cosmic being, as in the separate individualities of its minutest organisms."
"

Mar[27] = ""And so on through every degree, from the lowest depths of ignorance to the greatest heights of intelligence, a man's life must always be the exact reflection of that particular stage which he has reached in the perception of the divine nature and of his own relation to it"

"as we approach the full perception of Truth, so the life-principle within us expands, the old bonds and limitations which had no existence in reality fall off from us, and we enter into regions of light, liberty, and power, of which we had previously no conception."
I am what i am:
"Life itself is to be realised only by the conscious experience of its livingness in ourselves, and it is the endeavour to translate these experiences into terms which shall suggest a corresponding idea to others that gives rise to all symbolism."
"

It is that 'unity of the spirit' which is unity, simply because it has not yet passed into diversity. However, says the legend, Jesus knew this and dodged the lions. He transcribed the Name, and cutting open his thigh, hid the writing in the incision which, by magical art, he at once closed up; then, after leaving the Temple, he took the writing out and so retained the knowledge of the Name. You cannot create anything without at the same time creating its relation to everything else, just as in painting a landscape, the contour you give to the trees will determine that of the sky. May[3] = ""Now this is the Spirit that we need to enter into, and the method of doing so is a perfectly logical one. It is the same method by which all scientific advance is made. It consists in first observing how a certain law works under the conditions spontaneously provided by nature, next in carefully considering what principle this spontaneous working indicates, and lastly deducing from this how the same principle would act under specially selected conditions, not spontaneously provided by nature."

"The progress of shipbuilding affords a good example of what I mean. Formerly wood was employed instead of iron, because wood floats in water and iron sinks; yet now the navies of the world are built of iron; careful thought showed the law of floatation to be that anything could float which, bulk for bulk, is lighter than the mass of liquid displaced by it; and so we now make iron float by the very same law by which it sinks, because by the introduction of the personal factor, we provide conditions which do not occur spontaneously--according to the esoteric maxim that 'Nature unaided fails.' Now we want to apply the same process of specializing a generic Law to the first of all Laws, that of the generic life-giving tendency of Spirit itself. Without the element of individual personality the Spirit can only work cosmically by a generic Law; but this law admits of far higher specialization, and this specialization can only be attained through the introduction of the personal factor. But to introduce this factor the individual must be fully aware of the principle which underlies the spontaneous or cosmic action of the law. Intelligence manifests itself by responsiveness, and the whole action of the cosmic mind in bringing the evolutionary process from its first beginnings up to its present human stage is nothing else but a continual intelligent response to the demand which each stage in the progress has made for an adjustment between itself and its environment.

Since, then, we have recognized the presence of a universal intelligence permeating all things, we must also recognize a corresponding responsiveness hidden deep down in their nature and ready to be called into action when appealed to. "
Insight:
"All mental treatment depends on this responsiveness of spirit in its lower degrees to higher degrees of itself.
